Redeveloping former Navajo mine land sites into solar energy farms offers clean energy generation in a location with many advantages. The land is already being used for mining activity and has road access, power lines, and easy connections to the power grid. This reduces development costs and construction time allowing for the creation of new jobs and revenue streams to be realized sooner.
The NavEnergy HubTM is currently on path to provide 200MWs of solar-based energy, along with peaking gas power plant capability; all leveraging existing transmission for streamlined access to major markets. Solar installation on reclaimed mine lands means no additional land is removed from service, and there is no need for further disturbance of the land itself.
