Generation and Transmission

The Navajo Nation is ideally positioned in the Southwest and the home to the Four Corners Power Plant (FCPP) and the busy Four Corners energy hub. In July 2018, NTEC acquired seven-percent ownership in units four and five of the FCPP. As a result of the transaction, NTEC became an owner of a coal-fired power plant, a first for a Navajo Nation enterprise. In September 2024, NTEC was awarded $6.5 million for a Front-End Engineering (FEED) Study to evaluate adding carbon capture to FCPP. It is the first grant of its kind of a tribally owned power plant on tribal lands.

To harness the potential of these deposits for the benefit of the Navajo Nation, NTEC acquired Tacitus LLC, which included the Tocito Dome, in 2021 and founded NTEC Helium. Since then, NTEC Helium has generated more than $3 million for the Navajo Nation.
